More About Our Winner
Dana lives in Greymouth on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island with her husband Shaun and son Thomas. They are Christchurch earthquake veterans although not refugees having moved to the Coast seven and half months ago for work - and also because Thomas was on the way.
When we told her she had won Dana was particularly pleased that Scoop's Gordon Campbell had been so complimentary about her entry. It turns out Dana is also a veteran Scoop reader and a big fan of Gordon Campbell in particular. "He's a bit of a dude and I think he really nails the issues", she says.
As for Scoop.co.nz our winner was also very complimentary, she reads Scoop regularly and has done for more than five years. She likes Scoop she says, because "you are the only ones who put out actual reporting and not airy fairy nonsense. Keep doing the good stuff!"
She is very clearly a most discerning and deserving winner.
- Scoop Editor Alastair Thompson
Today we are stoked to announce the winner of the brand new Samsung Galaxy Note II with a Telecom Prepay Sim-card packed with $200 credit.
The TechLab team were very impressed with the number and quality of entries for the first Scoop TechLab Writing Competition where entrants were asked to tell us "What would you do with a Galaxy Note II on the Telecom Smartphone Network?"
The judging panel, Scoop's Editor Alastair Thompson and Political Editor Gordon Campbell were tasked with choosing the best written answer to the competition question. This proved to be even more challenging than expected.
"In the end the panel all agreed that there was one answer which really stood out." Mr Thompson said. "The author really had to convince us through their words why they should win the awesome Galaxy Note II smartphone and Telecom Prepay credit - and the winners answer did. Plus they managed to be funny whilst doing so." Gordon Campbell added, "and the winner seems to be able to write very well indeed."
As this week is Scoop's 14th Birthday and because we liked several of the entries a lot the Scoop TechLab Team have decided to award additional prize's to each of five finalists, namely a Limited Edition Scoop Notebook - with the embossed Scoop kowhai koru design on a red Fisca (recycled leather) cover.
